“We Will Serve You Like Our Own Family”
At the tragedy spot of Daegu subway tragedy that shocked the whole nation, the New Life Welfare Foundation members threw themselves into comforting the bereaved families.
They stay at the accident spot for 24 hours and provide the bereaved families and the concerned people with meals and beverages. The New Life Welfare Foundation members have been serving meals for 20 days and encouraging the bereaved families.
The New Life Welfare Foundation members are serving in three shifts; female adults for day, and male adults from night to early morning. Besides the New Life Welfare Foundaiton, about 40 other organizations are providing bread and beverages on the spot. Among many voluntary organizations, only the New Life Welfare Foundation provides hot meals with soup, so many people visit its service camp: the bereaved families, callers for condolence, concerned officials, journalists and reporters who were staying on the spot. They all use the meal camp of the New Life Welfare Foundation.
A bereaved family member, Mr. Shin (male, Jung-gu, Daegu) thanked the New Life Welfare Foundation members, saying, “Whenever I come to this meal camp, I feel very comfortable as if I were at my own home and open my heart to them.” The camp manager Park Byeong-ho said, “We operate the camp 24 hours in three shifts; female adults served the meals for the day, and male and young adults from night to early morning. We became very intimate with the bereaved families and the press because we are offering three meals a day to them and have heart-to-heart talks with them.”
The New Life Welfare Foundation stated that it would constantly operate the meal camp until the tragedy is squared away. We hope that the sincere efforts of the New Life Welfare Foundation will continue and become a great comfort to the bereaved families.
